ANTI-CONDENSATION PROFILE SHEETING

 Benefits:

Anti-condensation sheeting is a cost effective way to overcome the problem of condensation forming on a single skin steel sheet. A self-adhesive fleece is applied to the underside of the steel during the profiling process and this allows the sheet to absorb up to 1kg of water per square metre, stopping any water dripping. The fleece can be applied to a variety of profiles both traditional corrugated and box profile.

Why condensation forms:

Condensation forms on un-insulated metal sheets when the temperature and humidity conditions reach the dew point, moisture condenses on the underside of the sheet. If there is a lot of condensation, drops of water form and start to fall. The traditional method for dealing with condensation is to try to insulate the roof so that the sheets temperature never reaches the dew point. An insulated roof is more expensive and that a single skin roof and is not always the most suitable choice.

How product works:

Anti-condensation sheets stops dripping by absorbing water and retaining it within the fleece. When temperatures rise the water that has been absorbed by the fleece will start to evaporate back into the air and the fleece will dry out. It is vitally important to ventilate the building when using this type of sheeting for this reason. Examples of adequate and inadequate ventilation show below.

Where product can’t be used:

This type of sheeting cannot be used in all scenarios, the fleece has a limit to how much moisture it can handle and when that limit is reached drips will start to fall. If a building is heated or contains livestock extra humidity is generated, for this reason it is not recommended to use anti-condensation sheeting in these conditions.

Installation

Sheets are fitted in a similar way to a normal single skin steel sheet, generally foam fillers are not be used to allow for ventilation however ventilated foam fillers are available if required. The fleece material runs the full length of the sheet so to prevent moisture tracking back up the fleece, you must apply a strip of varnish to the bottom edge of the sheet to create a moisture barrier. When fixing to timber purlins a water barrier must be laid between the sheet and purlin to prevent the fleece absorbing moisture from the timber purlin. When handling extra care must be taken to not only protect the fleece from damage but also to keep the sheet clean and dry.

We can also provide an anti-condensation sheet that does not require a varnished edge, a special oil is used within the fleece that prevents water tracking up the sheet. This product is subject to minimum order quantities and may have a slight cost difference so please enquire if you are interested.
