I have been working at Southern Sheeting for over 10 years now.  I started my career working as a sales advisor and am now the sales supervisor of our specialist products department.   I initially wanted to work for the company because it ticked the boxes in terms of being local and family run – I didn’t want to work for a large company where I would be just another member of staff.  

During my 10 years here, I have seen the company grow from 13 staff in one office to 60 staff across two depots and despite this we have managed to maintain the same culture from when we were much smaller; everybody is friendly, approachable and willing to help one another.  

I started working for Southern Sheeting in May 2018 as a technical sales advisor; working on the trade counter and handling telephone sales.  In the 4 years that I have been here I have progressed in the role and taken on the management of some of our larger accounts and key customers.   Initially I was attracted to the role because it was a good salary and I didn’t have to work weekends but I now feel like a valued member of a close knit team.   It is a great environment to work in, with strong family ethics and a good balance between relaxed and formal.  More importantly you get recognised and rewarded when you do a good job and there are opportunities to build a career here. 

When I joined the business last year as the HR Manager I was made to feel welcome from day one (even if I did get made fun of for having a northern accent!)  As someone who has spent the last 10 years working in the public sector it was a huge change for me and after couple of weeks I felt that I had been here for years. It is refreshing to work in an environment where I am  trusted and given the autonomy to do what I think needs to be done in terms of HR. I have loved getting stuck in and have some exciting projects to deliver and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the company.
