How to ensure the correct compression of fixings

Transcript

Here at Southern Sheeting, we’re often asked how to tell if you’ve secured your fixings properly. Having the correct compression is vital, over or under tightening will cause damage and problems to the sheet – voiding the warranty. A correctly compressed neoprene washer will form a gasket between the roofing sheet and screw which will stand the test of time.

By over tightening, you can dent the sheets, causing water and debris to build up. This will also expand the neoprene washer too much, leading to a poor seal that will eventually leak.

Under tightening can cause ingress from water, ruining the internal insulation and leaking through to the underside. Here you can see an over, under and correctly tightened fixing.
