Work Out the Sizes Before You Buy

Guttering only performs if the size suits the roof it's draining. Too small, and it struggles in a downpour. Too few outlets, and the water goes where it shouldn't. Send us the roof dimensions and we'll help you settle on the right system size, the number of outlets and downpipes, and every bracket, stop end and joint the run needs. Galvanised Steel Guttering FAQs

What does galvanising actually do?

The steel carries a zinc coating that acts as a barrier against moisture and corrodes in place of the metal beneath it. That's what allows a steel gutter to last far longer than an untreated one.

What system sizes do you stock?

We supply 125mm and 150mm gutter systems, with gutter lengths at 3.0m and downpipes available in 87mm and 100mm diameters. If you're unsure which system your roof needs, send us the measurements and we'll advise.

What finishes can I choose from?

Components are available plain galvanised or painted, with finishes including black and anthracite grey. Availability varies by part, so it's worth checking with us if you want a whole run in one colour.

How do I know what size gutter my roof needs?

It depends on the roof area, the pitch and local rainfall. Larger or steeper roofs shed water faster and need more capacity. Give us the measurements and we'll work out the system size and the number of outlets for you.

Should I buy painted or paint it myself?

We'd point you to a pre-painted option rather than painting on site. The factory finish is more consistent and better protected than anything applied afterwards, and it saves you a job. 

How far apart should the brackets go?

Bracket spacing depends on the system and the expected load, including snow. Rather than guess, give us a call and we'll confirm the spacing for the size you're fitting.

Is steel guttering heavier to handle than plastic?

It weighs more, though it's manageable and the brackets are made for it. Many installers find the extra rigidity actually helps, since the lengths don't flex about while you're lining them up.

Can I replace a plastic system with steel?

Usually, yes. The brackets and fixings will need changing to suit the steel system, and the fascia needs to be sound. Tell us what's up there now and we'll talk through what the swap involves.

Do you sell a bracket bending tool?

We do. It's there for adjusting brackets to suit the fall and the fascia on site, which saves a lot of fiddling on an awkward run.

Can the lengths be cut on site?

They can. Cut ends should be treated so corrosion doesn't start at the exposed edge, and we'll tell you what to use. If you'd rather avoid cutting, send your run lengths and we'll help plan the layout.

What fittings make up a complete run?

Gutters, brackets, joints with seals, stop ends, internal and external corners, outlets, downpipes, bends, branches and clips. We stock the lot, so you end up with a full system rather than a half-built one.

Will it suit an older property?

The profile works well on traditional buildings and gives a similar look to older cast iron without the weight. If the property is listed, check what's permitted with your local authority before ordering.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, with pre-arranged delivery dates so the materials arrive when the job's ready for them. Free click and collect is available from our depots if you'd sooner pick it up yourself
